Boosie Badazz It’s been a good year for Boosie Badazz (aka Lil Boosie, or just Boosie). The 35-year-old NOLA rapper is finally off probation after wrestling drug charges for 10 years (he gleefully posted a photo of his voter registration form to celebrate), and he just signed 12-year-old rapper Lil Blurry to his Bad Azz Music Syndicate imprint. Skye has Boosie on deck for what should be a very lively Labor Day throwdown. (Skye, Ybor City) INFO

Bey Day You better believe there will be frozen lemonade at Franklin Manor’s Bey Day party. Other signature cocktails will also get you drunk in love, so get your naughty girls (and baby boys) in formation for a jumpin’ jumpin’ party that includes a red carpet plus VJs and DJs all playing all Beyoncé, Destiny’s Child songs (with a little Solange mixed in for good measure) (Franklin Manor, Tampa) INFO

✔️Cancer Benefit Concert w/Ricky Wilcox and the Moonsnakes/Cheap Gunslingers, The Inhalers/The Sara Rose Band/Adam Turkel Kim Dicce is a goddamned local-music institution. She gave me my first cool job, working at north Tampa’s Stone Lounge; she booked kick-ass bands for USF and The Rubb in Ybor City; she’s kept the barflies in line whenever she’s worked at the Emerald. Every local punk, indie or fringe musician that came up in the ‘90s owes her a debt. And it’s time to give back. Kim’s dealing with some rather expensive health issues, so her friends and fans are throwing an all-star benefit in her honor at St. Pete’s most revered dive, which is taking the unheard-of step of going smoke-free for the occasion. Raffles, stiff drinks, and performances by Ricky Wilcox & The Moonsakes, The Sara Rose Band (pictured), The Inhalers, Cheap Gunslingers (featuring former Gotohells!) and Adam Turkel are just icing on the cake. Thanks for everything, Kim. We got your back. (Emerald Bar, St. Petersburg) INFO — Scott Harrell

✔️ The Lee Boys w/Chris Johnson Ella’s Americana Folk Art Café already hosts one hell of a soul-food brunch, but a chance to create the ultimate gastro-musical Tampa Bay bang-bang happens when a mighty-fine sacred steel bill comes to Skipper’s Smokehouse, which is offering a supplemental $10 supper plate that includes your choice of protein (fried chicken, catfish or ribs) plus Southern sides. Doors at 5 p.m. (Skipper’s Smokehouse, Tampa) INFO

MUSIC ISSUE 2018
St. Petersburg’s Kasey Maloney ditched garage-punk to explore country-rock with Fever Beam

✔️ The Spoon Dogs w/Johnny Mile & The Kilometers/Fever Beam A set from St. Petersburg rock band Fever Beam makes you want to drink a few whiskies on the rocks, and the band’s role as opener on this no-cover show means that we’ll be oiled up quite nicely by the time a new Orlando rock and roll band, The Spoon Dogs, introduces itself to Tampa Bay. Blue-collar boogie fills in the middle of the bill thanks to Johnny Mile & the Kilometers and its towering bassist Chris Cardon, who just released a solo album. (The Hub Bar, Tampa) INFO

MUSIC ISSUE 2018
It’s “rock out or f*** off” for Chris Cardon of Tampa’s Johnny Mile and Kilometers

Sandbar Concert w/Jimmie Shelton/Vic Sherman and the Chicago Express/Hal Hammer Jr. and the Cross Creek Blues Band/Ken Keller with Red Hawk Labor Day weekend means another excuse to take part in one of the most quintessentially Florida things ever: A sandbar concert. A boat (please, no floats) is the only way to get to this concert where you can bring chairs, coolers and animals so that you can chill in the warm waters while listening to live music being blasted off of a pontoon stage anchored in the channel near St. Petersburg’s Tanglewood Way. ✔️ Tony Lucca Water Works Park eatery Ulele gets into the live-music game with this Sunday set of acoustic tunes by The Voice contestant Tony Lucca, who played a much larger venue (The Palladium in St. Petersburg) the last time he was in town. The downtown Tampa park has some of the best sunsets in town, so it’ll be interesting to see if this is the start of a new free-to-attend concert series. 70th Anniversary of St. Andrew’s Russian Church The Russian Orthodox community in St. Petersburg, Florida, can trace its origins to 1948, and on Sunday it celebrates the 70th anniversary of one of its sanctuaries with this concert that finds longtime Bay area music scene staples Nina and Robert Wegman joining a lineup that includes a sacred vocal quartet, ballet dancers plus Moscow’s Elona Krasavtseva and harpist Vlad Markov. This left-of-center show is happening on the Gibbs campus of St. Petersburg College, and admission is free. (St. Petersburg College St. Petersburg Gibbs Campus, St. Petersburg) INFO

Ethan Parker w/David Francisco The late addition of feel-good American Idol contestant David Francisco should put a little extra shine on this show in Safety Harbor, but the bellowing voice of Memphis indie-soul songwriter Ethan Parker was already enough to make us want to spend a Sunday night in this cozy seaside town.
