Most of the nostalgia and hoopla around Woodstock’s 50th anniversary has been meh (we get it: drugs and free love, but didn’t many of those hippies in the crowd become fuddy-dud Republicans and pseudo-Libertarians?).
Props to Mark Etherington, however, for taking the anniversary’s energy and turning it into a three-day celebration of Tampa Bay musicians. Etherington, who makes ethereal folk for fans of bands like Fleet Foxes, has curated Cagestock, a three-day, free music festival at Cage Brewing where more than 20 acts will bring an eclectic plate of tunes (bluegrass, Americana, rock and roll, psychedelic, funk, sultry singer-songwriters and experimental sounds) to two stages. Friday’s lineup features some of the best young rock bands in St. Petersburg, but Saturday’s Family Funk jam should be cool, too.
