Manny Shortly after its release, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s sophomore album, Hoodie SZN, spent a couple of weeks on top of the Billboard 200 — that’s despite selling less than 1,000 copies in the traditional way (aka physical, downloads). Old-school publications like Rolling Stone seemed to lament the streaming success of the effort, but were forced to once again reckon with with new forces in the market two weeks ago when Mr. Hoodie returned to the No. 1 spot despite selling what was reportedly just 452 traditional copies of the record (streaming equivalent albums put the number of copies sold at 47K). The promising Bronx-bred rapper who broke out in 2016 on the heels of his ARTIST mixtape will face another tough task in trying to fill up The Ritz on a Monday night, but he’ll prove the critics wrong if he can pull it off, and show that streamers actually do go to shows.
