Creative Loafing continues its local-music-centric concert series with a post-Fourth-of-July show featuring Tampa Bay acts whose band names hint at taking "independence" to mean terrorism (Car Bomb Driver), arson (Mouse Fire), professional assassin-ism (Have Gun, Will Travel) and militarism (Military Junior) — yes, we are unapologetically "alternative" here at CL. There's not a bad band in the bunch, and no two sound the same. Car Bomb Driver's gloriously old-school punk is offset by Military Junior's emotive math-rock, whereas Mouse Fire's quirky indie-rock counterbalances Have Gun, Will Travel's earnest alt-country. In addition to premium local music, attendees will be privy to $2 drinks, on-site voter registration and a $50 gas-card giveaway.
CL in Concert Presents Independence Fest: Car Bomb Driver/Mouse Fire/Have Gun, Will Travel/Military Junior, 8 p.m. (doors), 9 p.m. (show), Sat., July 5, State Theatre, St. Petersburg, $8/$5 w/voter registration.
