Chicago indie-rock royal Whitney (pictured) headlines alongside all-girl Japanese rock outfit Chai (stylized “CHAI”), which often dresses, sings, and dances in unison. Whitney’s airy, laid-back melodies juxtapose with Chai’s high-energy, punk likeness—making Thursday night’s gig a balanced representation of everything under the “rock” umbrella. Both bands released full-length albums—Whitney with Forever Turned Around and Chai with the self-explanatory LP Punk.— that they are promoting on this tour.
