The last Tune-Up for the month of September is here, which means we're less than a week from October. October is one of my favorite months of the year, so typing that makes me a tiny bit excited. How about we finish this month with the finest indie-rock tunes around? Let's do it!
Maybe I'm still on a high from seeing Merchandise perform this past Friday at Crowbar or their new record really is that good? After a quick thought, A Corpse Wired For Sound really is that good. "Right Back to the Start" is one of most electronic influenced tracks I've heard from the Tampa natives, but it's a smooth ode that oozes sex appeal and style. Singer Carson Cox has a less than ordinary tone, but it's smoother than usual and just shows you the higher production on the new record. If someone were to ask me who Merchandise's new record reminded me of, a young Depeche Mode would spring to mind. I urge you to take 43 minutes out of your day and give A Corpse Wired For Sound a chance to sink in.
Brooklyn based artist and beat maker, Chrome Sparks has an excellent new song titled "All Or Nothing" featuring Angelica Bess. The track opens up to video game style bleeps and quickly transcends to a lush synth-soul. Body Language’s Bess continues to smooth things out while horns float above a mid-tempo beat. It really is a song with multiple personalities and probably one of my favorites from this week. Lookout for Chrome Sparks new album Parallelism, due out November 6th. For those of you who would like to see Chrome Sparks rip shit live, he'll be here October 8th at Crowbar. See you guys there.
Hazy guitar pop is great. Redspencer shows us how it's done on their new track "Fuss." The Melbourne four piece adds some of their psychedelic jangle to Fuss and logical lyrics like: "It doesn’t matter too much / what they say about you / you’re flying up and above / over the fuss." I'll be on watch for their new album expected to hit later this fall.
