It’s not every day that you get to see a Domincan accordionist play Perico ripiao (aka, merengue típico, the oldest form of merengue).
That’s what’s happening in the North Tampa suburbs on Friday, however, and the man doing the pumping is none other that Krency Garcia (aka El Prodigio), who’s famous for spats with other accordionists and the way he’s turned a relatively ancient Caribbean musical style into something extremely exciting in a live setting.
El Prodigio. Fri., June 14, 9 p.m.. $15-$30. Whiskey North, Tampa. eventbrite.com.
