Last summer at Newport Folk Festival, I watched Judy Collins play a note-for-note cover of Crosby, Stills & Nash’s 1969 classic “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” alongside Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold, the Shins’ James Mercer and Fruit Bats’ Eric Johnson. She ended the song with a quip about its lyricist (and former Tampa native) Stephen Stills: “The first time he sang that to me, I said, ‘You know, it’s a beautiful song, but it’s not going to get me back.’” It was a sweetly savage move, and it makes me want to see the 80-year-old folk icon after Kirsten Maxwell opens the show.
