Sorry Hov, but you you’ve gotta respect your elders on this one.
Jay-Z was supposed to have a field day in the headlines thanks to a new album available exclusively on Tidal (the streaming service he partially owns), but political rap legends Public Enemy had other plans (via NPR).
Today, Chuck D and the crew got a jump on plans to release a new album on July 4 by giving Nothing Is Quick In The Desert to fans, for free, right here and right now.
“The record business is appearing like a desert,” he told HipHopDX while explaining the LP’s title. “But the music has a life if you look at it right.”
The 13-track effort is streaming on Bandcamp where fans can also download it in exchange for an email address until the Fourth of July.
“The math, as we say, adds up to the 30th anniversary of Public Enemy in 2017. It’s been a ‘Long and Whining Road,’ as the title and video of a song done ten years ago indicates,” the band wrote in an online bio. “PE is still touring and recording as a rap hip-hop group, fighting for the genre’s survival against the ravages of time itself and being defined by the outside.”
