How would you feel if Bootsy Collins called you “the new spiritual warrior for the funk”? Because that’s what happened to Freekbass.

The Ohio-based outfit featuring past members of George Clinton’s touring band, Foxy Shazam and Turkuaz is supporting its latest album, All the Way This. All the Way That, which was recorded straight to a Tascam 388. The result is a record that’s a nod to Cincinnati funk and an evolution of a sound that’s both timeless and also ripe for evolution.

“A goal of mine has always been to capture the raw energy and soundwaves on how we produce live, while pushing the sonic boundaries in the studio,” Freekbass said in a release. “This album could have been recorded in 1972 and some of it in 2072.” This is a no-cover show.

Freekbass. Thurs., June 27, 8 p.m. No cover. Dunedin Brewery, Dunedin. dunedinbrewery.com.
