While live-streaming Lollapalooza via Hulu this summer, The Backseat Lovers caught my ear so much that I stopped my chores and watched the indie-rock outfit’s whole set. Though only together since 2018, the quartet transcends time with an aesthetic straight outta the ‘70s, (and sort of the ‘90s) and music reminiscent of a jammy Pinback. Just listen to “Watch Your Mouth” and hear for yourself. he Utah band’s debut Tampa performance seems to be sold-out, but it’s also playing Okeechobee Musical Festival in March, so keep that stacked bill on your radar,
If you’ve got tickets to the show, get there early and see Camp Howard—which was last in the area for a 2017 set at The Bends—work through its sexy new single, “Cañón.”
