Promoter Andres Hernandez put together a playlist of the bands playing at the all-ages Indie Night on Friday, and more organizers should take his lead. “Dance Party” by Better Than This is an awesome ‘80s-new-wave-but-sort-of-surf-rock delicious treat with monotone-ish vocals in a good Dead Milkmen-way. And then there’s Rohna, which rocked the Ybor venue earlier this year with a really good debut album “The Beautiful Ordinary.”
Taverns’ song “Julia” has an amazing Housemartins-Brit pop thing happening, and the surfy-spacey Coastals and Mak (formerly The Mak Brothers) round out the stellar talent.
So thanks for the playlist Andres—I went from a bunch of bands that I barely knew to having five new bands I can’t wait to hear live.
Better Than This w/Rohna/Taverns/Coastals/Mak. Friday, Aug. 20, 6:30 p.m. $10. Crowbar, Ybor City. crowbarybor.com
