Nearly one year ago, Will Quinlan told CL that he was busy making music for four new LPs across different projects. A hallmark of the projects — solo stuff, two albums with the Holy Slow Train and another with another band the Vesper Bell — was the help the Tampa singer-songwriter was getting from his musical friends.
Well now, even more of his friends are helping Quinlan inch towards finally getting those albums to tape. A new crowdfunding effort, spearheaded by Quinlan’s friend Tim Allison, is hoping to raise $5,000 so that the recording process can get going.

Where there’s a Will: Tampa songwriter Will Quinlan is readying four new LPs
Allison, 47, is one of the countless many who’ve shared a drink with Quinlan and heard the stories behind the songs that last broke hearts when Quinlan dropped Navasota in 2008. He’s also aware of everything that’s inspiring Quinlan these days.
“There are a lot of mysteries about Will that he just isn’t going to let most people in on,” Allison told CL, “so we always end up talking about songs, and he’s got tons, but just not the money to do them.”

The GoFundMe campaign kicked off a week ago, and it has raised nearly $2,000 since the launch. Quinlan, as suspected, says he was a bit blindsided by it all, adding that he never felt ready to start (and always felt awkward about) asking people to give to a crowdfunding campaign.
“I struggle with the ‘artistic validity’ demon,” Quinlan told CL is a message. “I don’t have faith in myself or my work in regard to being able to raise much money if any. I’m beyond moved by what Tim did, didn’t know until he sent me the link…had me on the verge of tears when I read what he wrote.”
