Tampa’s Displace is “a saxophone and electric violin-driven funk fusion ensemble”—think of a Jamiroquai-Phish combination cocktail.
Electric violinist Chris Barbosa, formerly of now defunct BOTB-winners The Porch Sessions, joins bassist Nathan Barnitz, drummer Evan Thibeault. What’s more is that vocalist Chris Sgammato also plays the saxophone and, most importantly, the keytar. Displace hasn’t performed since 2018, and has made some lineup changes since the band’s incarnation (Sgammato’s the only original member.)
And what’s up with the Crowbar’s COVID-19 protocols? The Ybor City venue has upped the attendance from 100 to 150 and masks are recommended. “I am and have been trying to stay consistent with CDC guidelines,” Crowbar’s Tom DeGeorge told CL,“Hoping to be at full capacity by late summer or early fall.” So get those vaxxes, y’all. We’ve got shows to see.
Displace/The Reality. Saturday, May 29. 9 p.m. $20. The Crowbar, Ybor City. crowbarybor.com
