Tampa Bayโ€™s resident Grammy nominee Chuck Owen is living up to his word that once he retired from his position as USFโ€™s director of jazz studies, he would continue being creative.

On Sunday, Jan. 8, Owen brings together ReSurgenceโ€”a scaled down version of his 19-piece Jazz Surge ensembleโ€”to St. Pete’s Palladium Theater as part of a brief tour of Florida. He wonโ€™t only be holding the baton, but also take on keyboards, and maybe even accordion segments.

Joining in the fun is special guest jazz vocalist Kate McGarry, whose resume includes providing vocals on a Kenny Loggins childrenโ€™s album, and once recording a stirring version of Paul Simonโ€™s โ€œAmerican Tuneโ€ with Grammy-nominated guitarist Keith Ganz.

If you need the full Surge treatment from Owens, then make it a weekend and see the big band in Wesley Chapel on Friday, Jan. 6.
