The ghosts of Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke and Curtis Mayfield are all over Durand Jones & the Indications’ 2019 album American Love Call. Well, put a smile on your face, people, because the Indiana-based soul outfit is finally bringing that spirit to Tampa Bay.
On Tuesday, the band announced a winter tour that includes a February 7 stop at Crowbar, located at 1812 N. 17th St. in Ybor City. Tickets to the show go on sale Friday, October 25 and cost $15-$18. Luz Elena Mendoza’s eclectic folk-pop band Y La Bamba opens the show.
And while the band’s sound is rooted in the ‘60 and ‘70s, American Love Dream’s call for regular people to start caring for each other and standing up for the working class feels particularly relevant in this day and age when suits in Washington D.C. seem hell bent on profiting from their proximity to power.
