Patel Conservatory Jazz Intensive Concert In our new Music Issue hitting stands Thursday, we pointed out that in Tampa, one of the places cultivating young jazz musicians is the David A. Straz Center’s Patel Conservatory. This week saw students work through a five-day jazz intensive taught by saxophonist Matthew Weimuller who runs kids through master classes, ear-training and improvising for combo and big band playing. Jeremy Carter For many, John Coltrane is religion. Saxophonist Jeremy Carter (of the sadly dormant Tampa band Bird Street Players) is set to try and show a Side Door Cabaret crowd why this weekend when he pays tribute to the late jazz icon (who died 52 years ago this week).
