Considering how thereโ€™s no shortage of โ€˜80s cover bands in Tampa Bayโ€”for better or worseโ€”itโ€™s only natural that one of our most respected local jazz outfits would dip its toes into that territory.

The aptly-titled La Luchaโ€”one of Tampa Bay’s best instrumental bandsโ€”taps into some vocals for its album La Lucha Plays the โ€˜80s .

On it, the trio turns Madonnaโ€™s voice on โ€œLike A Virginโ€ into an ultra-smooth James Suggs trumpet arrangement, and still works in two original, mostly-piano-driven instrumental pieces, โ€œE.Tโ€ and โ€œSheโ€™s Like The Wind.โ€

On hand to help rip out selections from the record and more will be the vocals of Guianna Brantley (colloquially known by her first name only), which appear on the recordings, too.

Tickets to La Lucha Plays The ’80s at freeFall Theatre in St. Petersburg are sold-out.
