First off, don’t get confused.
Black Keys Productions is not affiliated with the Ohio duo comprised of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney. In fact, it is the Bay area production studio responsible for the pristine sound on the latest full-length from Tampa pop band Jordan Esker & the Hundred Percent.
Next, know that Tampa Super Group (TSG)is the actual moniker of a project being driven in part by New Fang band member Tyler Coy, who managed to get some of CL’s favorite local songwriters (Esker and his Hundred Percent bandmate Vincent Montemarano, Blake Daniels, Ben Saylor) under one roof to record “Next Man.”
Written by Esker and Daniels, the cut is the first volume of TSG and was borne of Esker and Black Keys engineer/co-founder Daniel Gentry’s desire to bring unlikely songwriting pairs into the studio for a free recording session.
“The process is filmed and released along with the song and a benefit festival featuring all the musicians involved,” Coy told CL. “The goal of the TSG project is to help build up the special Tampa and St. Petersburg scene and its artists so that people can hear about the special movement going on out here.”
