“What we started to build got out of our hands.” Those are the final words from Underoath frontman Spencer Chamberlain in a trailer for an upcoming documentary chronicling the band’s life cycle in the context of a 12-stop farewell tour in 2013.
The Tampa post-hardcore demigods trusted a film company to document it all, and it did, but the company went under, leaving the band to finish the film on their own. They’re asking fans for help and have started a crowd-funding campaign that they hope will accomplish the goal of bringing Tired Violence to the real world. Rewards for contributing to the pot include a download of the film ($15), Blu-rays ($25), tee-shirt bundles ($50-$75), and even tickets to VIP screening events complete that include hour-long Q&A sessions with the band. It’s been a while since we’ve been handed some new Happiness Machine jams. These aren’t them, but they are a bit similar. Led by Machine keyboardist Jackson Davis, a new band — Jackson Davis and The Jackettes — has given us a tune to warm our tushes. “Supermarket Blues” is marked by cosmic, M.Ward-loving sunny guitars, vocals awash in the mix, and a slow n' steady drumbeat. An accompanying video clip is equally dreamy, and you can watch the whole thing below. Download the track for free at Bandcamp.
Sur Back’s output has been enchanting ear drums since this past summer, and while the world has had ample opportunity to get lost in the lucid-dreaming art-pop sounds of “Jane Eyre,” we now have the track’s visual compatriot (via I Guess I’m Floating). The four-and-a-half-minute clip is directed by Derek Miller and follows a storyline that is as disjointed and dizzying as the song itself. It’s an ambitious project for an artist just breaking out of Orlando, but you get the feeling that Sur Back’s Caroline Sans won’t be wearing that “local” tag for very much longer. Have a look at the clip below.
