Shane Hurst is a long way from home, and fans of emo and folky punk-rock bands like Front Bottoms or Mom Jeans will want to see the Maryland songwriter when he brings his project, Adjust the Sails, to play a free show in Tampa Heights.

Known for being direct and to the point in his songwriting, Hurst, taps Stop n’ Shop (the Tampa band describes itself as “post punk for The Killers fans”) and twee-pop devotee A Rainy Night In to open the show.

Adjust the Sails w/A Rainy Night In/Stop N Shop. Fri. Nov. 1, 8 p.m. No cover. Shuffle, Tampa. brokenmoldentertainment.com.
