The local jazz scene is a major contributor to Tampa Bay’s weekly live music calendar, and this weekend is no exception.

Friday night kicks off with a free “Jazz in the Quad” show at St. Petersburg College. Hosted by EMIT, the gig honors Hispanic Heritage Month with the MJR Latin Project led by Mauricio Rodriguez playing alongside local Brazilian group O Som Do Jazz.

But that’s not the only jazz concert happening this weekend. Spyro Gyra is at Clearwater’s Capitol Theatre Saturday, and on Sunday, Tampa Jazz Club’s “Carter plays Coltrane” features saxophonist Jeremy Carter and friends paying tribute to the late great musician at Hillsborough Community College’s Ybor City campus. Rounding out the weekend is another Grammy-nominated jazz fusion act, Yellowjackets which is at Largo’s Central Park Performing Arts Center on Sunday. Be sure to check each venue because they each have different COVID-19 protocols.
