A wide daytime group photograph of roughly 30 attendees of a Tampa DSA walking tour gathered in Ybor City's Parque Amigos de José Martí. The diverse group is casually dressed, with a few individuals on the edges wearing bright yellow safety vests, posing and smiling together. Behind them stands a white statue of José Martí on a pedestal. The group is flanked by a United States flag on a flagpole to the left and a Cuban flag to the right. In the foreground, a distinct red and white striped brick pathway leads directly up to the group, surrounded by green grass and shaded by mature trees in the background.

The Tampa chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is just $1,500 away from reaching its $10,000 goal in a campaign to help cancel $1 million in medical debt across Hillsborough County with help from the Undue Medical Debt nonprofit.

To get over the hump, the organization marks the historic labor holiday May Day with an evening concert that includes sets from instrumental guitarist Giant Sloth, working-class rock band Al Torchia & the Tattered Saints, and St. Pete punk outfit Dissentors.

Tickets to Tampa DSA’s May Day Benefit Concert at Shuffle in Tampa on Friday, May 1 are still available for $10.
