Longtime fans of the Bay area hip-hop scene know the name Mike Mass. The MC (who celebrates his 30th birthday at the end of the month) has been recording boom-bap-driven rhymes since he was a teenager, but he’s evolved over the years and is finally releasing a debut full-length this year. He’ll be backed by a full band during a Friday night album preview performance at Ella’s Americana Folk Art Café where an up-and-coming CL favorite, Louis Junior, opens the show. More information is available on Facebook.

If you’re looking for hip-hop and soul on Thursday, then expect a crowd (all tables have sold out as of press time) and wear all black when you check out a three-year anniversary party for Left Lane Entertainment’s Art & Soul monthly basement party at Iberian Rooster. Per usual, the lineup includes up-and-coming talent like military vet turned outlandish MC Fre$h P, and we’re excited to hear what jazz singer Kristen Warren will bring to the festivities.
