The CL Music Team kicks off the week with some new jams (and old) to launch us into a new work week! Heres what were spinning now; to check out previous entries, click here.
Infinite Skillz Lupe Fiasco, Lasers (2011)
"State Run Radio" (track 10) is the scene stealing sleeper of a hit on this long-awaited album. Lupe is quite proficient at displaying his intelligence by communicating complex thoughts clearly so that that others can understand the points he is trying to convey. If that is "dumbing it down," then so be it!
Leilani Oh Land, Oh Land (2011), Tame Impala, Innerspeaker (2010)
Oh Land is the dance music project of Danish singer-songwriter Nanna Øland Fabricius. I like a little over half of her self-titled debut. The best tracks are subtle, down-tempo percussive-inflected grooves like those of "Perfection" and "Break the Chain," or bright and ultra-catchy dance-inducing electro pop ("Sun of a Gun," "We Turn It Up"); the highlight and most appealing part of all the tracks is Nanna's vocals, which are high and sweet and can be girlishly playful or coy and sexy or earnestly poignant, depending on the vibe of the song. Tame Impala is a four-piece of young Aussies who craft some super-psychedelic wall-of-sound melodic-groove rock, with their psyche-Beatles, Pink Floyd and Velvet Underground influences worn on their tattered unwashed sleeves. Check out their video for the song "Expectation" after the jump. It was directed by Clemens Habicht in an autumn-touched forest just outside of Paris on a day off during Tame Impala's European tour.
