There was a time when Mystikal’s Y2K hit “Shake (It Fast)” was arguably the most ubiquitous hip-hop song on the radio.

These days, the 47-year-old Lousisiana rapper and former Cash Money Records hitmaker is just making the most of his time away from a Shreveport area correctional complex. In February, Mystikal — who was accused of a sexual assault at a Shreveport casino in October 2016 — was released on $3 million bond following his August 2017 surrender to authorities.

He was indicted on charges of first-degree rape and second-degree kidnapping, but he’s looking forward to clearing his name when a trial starts in May. “Ultimately whenever the district attorney begins looking at what the facts of the case actually are it’s ultimately gonna be a dismissal,” Mystikal’s attorney, Joel Pearce, told Billboard, citing evidence, including video footage. “I mean this never happened.”

In the meantime, supporters can check Mystikal out at another installment of The Ritz Ybor’s throwback music series.

Mystikal. Thurs., Aug. 8. 10 p.m. $10. The Ritz, Ybor City. theritzybor.com.
