Three years ago, David Bazan was in a really low place, traveling the U.S. alone in his deteriorating minivan. After spending the night at his grandparents’ house in Phoenix, the 43-year-old songwriter decided to drive by his old childhood home, where he had a reckoning about his old band, Pedro the Lion (long story short: his process of working alone might’ve been fucked up, but his attempt to correct it failed, too).
By the end of that summer, Bazan had gotten a rehearsal space, mic’d up drums, bass, and guitar, and really leaned back into his original, solitary process once again.
“It immediately felt like like home,” Bazan said in a release. “Before long I realized it also felt like Pedro the Lion.”
A new album, Phoenix, was born, and now Bazan is bringing it to Tampa for an August 17 show at The Ritz in Ybor City. The gig is one of just two Florida shows for Pedro the Lion, which plays Revolution in Fort Lauderdale on August 16.
Philadelphia rock band mewithoutyou opens the show, and tickets go on sale Friday, May 3 at 10 a.m. EDT. More information on the show is available via ticketmaster.com.
