"Dude, who the fuck is Radkey?"

That's the first thing CL staffer Joey Neill asked me when he got to the office on Friday morning. He was fresh out of bed after Thursday night's veritable high school punk rock reunion where the folks you haven't seen in two decades all coalesced at Jannus Live in St. Petersburg, Florida for a set from old school California punk icons Descendents and Gainesville pop-punk party boys Rehasher.

By Joey's account, Descendents' set was everything he could ask for, and now Joey has a new band to follow.

For the uninitiated, Radkey is a Missouri-based family band made up of brothers Isaiah Radke, Solomon Radke, and Dee Radke. The trio has opened for Red Fang, Touche Amore and Against Me! on previous tours and has also released a pair of LPs and EPs. The band of brothers — managed by its dad, a music nerd and Wal-Mart employee — arrived at Jannus supporting a new single, "Not Smart," which looks to add a pop tuch to the group's psych-punk sound. The move is apparently working. Joey was into it, and Radkey recently appeared alongside R&B rising-star SZA in Can't Judge A Book, a new short documentary from Mastercard where the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter speaks on the obstacles to her passion that she faced on her journey to the top.

"They got a picture of us, and they didn't want us to play because they thought we were a rap group," Radkey shared in the clip. "Labels don't really work for our band because people think that rock is a white man's world."
