Thirty-four years after 3 Feet High and Rising changed the genre forever, De La Soul is finally being introduced to a new generation of rap next month, when the iconic trio’s first six albums are made available on streaming services.

The delay came after issues with royalties and sample clearances (we’re blaming Tommy Boy records!), but singles like “The Magic Number” have already rolled out, with more on the way before the big release in March.

To celebrate, Prince Paul, the pioneering mind who produced 3 Feet High and Rising, is coming to Tampa for “De La Day” happening on the 34th anniversary of the album’s original release.
Tickets to see Prince Paul headline De La Day at Crowbar in Ybor City on Friday, March 3 are on sale now and start at $20. DJs Casper and Sandman will play support alongside host, Tampa beat-miner Slopfunkdust.

The show is a collaboration between promoter Sean O’Brien and A Blowfly Joint’s Effren Denson who recently staged a tribute to MF Doom, and we’re excited to see designs for limited edition “De La Day” merch to mark the occasion.

Paul, 55, is no stranger to Crowbar, having played the venue’s infamous Ol’ Dirty Sundays party back in 2016. De La Soul emcees—Posdnuos, Trugoy and Maseo—were just part of a 50th anniversary of hip-hop performance at the 2023 Grammys last Sunday.
