Some new talent—including two new-to-me R&B artists, St. Pete’s Alianna and singer-songwriter Alyssa Conte (who contributed vocals to Sam E Hues’ Easy Tiger album two summers ago)—was supposed to join newbies Pilot Jonezz for this Ybor City show, but both Alianna and Conte had to drop out for what promoter Healthy Phoenix called personal reasons.
"We got some replacements already and some surprise sets happening still," the promoter told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay.
Jonezz (PJZ) had me at its description of “also known as the bastard love child of Funkadelic and Radiohead.” A musical offspring of George Clinton and Thom Yorke is definitely one to keep. PJZ recently released its debut single—“Rolling High”—which gets me wanting more. The punk-soul combo works really well, impressive since the band has only been together since 2020.
Current scene staples emcees Psych Montano and G’on Git round out the stellar lineup.
Healthy Phoenix Block Party: Alianna, G’on Git, Alyssa, Psych Montano, Pilot Jonezz. Friday, July 16, 7:30 p.m. $10. Crowbar, Ybor City. INFO
