Toronto punks PUP are also in town for what could potentially be one of the best shows in a year (read our interview with guitarist Steve Sladkowski here and more about the show below), Gat$ has an LP listening party and our homies in Luxury Mane are doing their zombie tiki thing at The Bends.

Also, why would anybody on God’s green earth spend their entire Saturday afternoon at a music store? Well, lots of reasons actually, but this particular one is additionally compelling as it finds Jim Chambers and his Music Box crew hosting a drum bash where students will compete for more than $2,000 in cash and prizes (plus a brand new Pearl drum set. Chambers has been hosting the bi-annual contest for half a decade now. Tailgating chairs and encouraged as the contest has grown quite large over the years.

“This is a great way to witness the drummers that will comprise the TB music scene over the next decade,” Chambers told CL. Get more info on the free, family-friendly event here.

PUP w/Cayetana/Chastity Toronto-punks were at the forefront of Side One Dummy’s recent renaissance and come to Ybor City just days after two day punk rock party Pre-Fest in support of a brand new, Polaris Prize nominated album, The Dream Is Over, which emerged after frontman Stefan Babcock received news that a cyst on his vocal chords might derail his band’s quickly-accumulating success. Gat$ By Any Dreams LP Release In a review of Gatsby’s new LP, By Any Dreams, CL contributor Casey Jeanite lauds the album’s eclectic soundscape, which jumps effortlessly between future-soul, trap gospel, jazz and ambient music all while being led by the Bay area emcee’s prophet-like lyrical approach. We’re excited to see how the sonic examination of black male braggadocio and mental health grows in the months after its release, but fans who RSVP can get a sneak peak when Clearwater’s Clear Track Studios opens its door for a special listening celebration. Zombie Tiki Party w/Luxury Mane /The Disasternauts/more The CL music desk is still slathered in the sounds of Luxury Mane’s latest album, Lux Runnin’ Out, which we profiled in September, and this show celebrating its release has now morphed into a Halloween party where The Bends turns into a tropical paradise overrun by the zombie-approved sounds of Cape Canaveral astro-surf outfit The Disasternauts plus DJs Sugar Bear and Big Chris. Mary Chapin Carpenter w/Rose Cousins Kids, you know that song “Passionate Kisses” you always hear during the daylight hours of wedding receptions? This is the artist responsible for that one, and believe it or not, she’s garnered five Grammy awards and been inducted to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. She also sold out the Cap in 2014 for good reason. In the late 1980s (when your big brothers & sisters were born), Carpenter, 58, was something of an anti-Nashville figure who pushed more folk-influenced sounds on the country that dominated the soundscape at the time. This appearance is in support of a brand new album, The Things That We Are Made Of, which was produced by David Cobb, who has worked on stuff from current Americana heroes Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson.
