Lil' Peep — a Long Island-raised rising rapper quickly changing the face of emo — has died. According to Billboard, Peep's manager Chase Ortega, broke the news.
"I've been expecting this call for a year," he wrote in a Twitter post. "Mother fuck".
Peep — real name Gustav Åhr — recently celebrated his 21st birthday and just played a set at the Orpheum in Ybor City. Other rappers like Lil' Chigga (another rising name in modern hip-hop who just played the Tampa area nightclub) sent condolences via Twitter.

"This shit is crazy," he wrote. "It's important at a time like this, tell your friends you love them and how much you appreciate them."
Representatives have not confirmed the cause of Peep's death, but The Guardian says the suspected cause is an overdose. Peep's music candidly addressed drug use and depression, and he posted a video to his Instagram page in the days before his death that is disheartening.
"El Paso, I took six Xanax, I'm not sick," he said. "I'll see you tonight."
