Chubby Checker, who popularized dancing the Twist—as well as the song of the same title—is playing a rare concert next year in St. Petersburg.
Luckily, the guy’s not totally a one-hit wonder, so while most of his setlist will probably be Checker-ified covers, the show is not going to be 85 minutes of “The Twist,” and its follow-up, “Let’s Twist Again” on repeat. In recent years, Chubby has written and recorded new music, but nothing made it quite as high on the Billboard charts as his early work did.
But look, it’s not every day that a rock-and-roller who came around before The Beatles rolls into town—let alone to perform.
Mike Huckabee will not open the show.
