Captured in a centered eye-level shot, the five members of St. Petersburg world-pop band The Hip Abduction pose in front of a wide, weather-worn red garage roll-up door. The band members stand and sit in casual streetwear—including dark t-shirts, jeans, and sunglasses—arranged symmetrically across the paved threshold under balanced outdoor ambient lighting.

Since its inception 16 years ago, St. Petersburg reggae-rock band The Hip Abduction has carefully, and slowly grown into larger venues. This weekend at The BayCare Sound in Clearwater it plays perhaps its biggest hometown headlining set to close a short run through the Southeast.

On the road with just a handful of bandmembers, don’t be surprised if this set under the stars sees an expanded lineup fleshed out with musicians that’ve helped the group cultivate a feel-good brand of beach-pop that’s grown more expansive and introspective over the course of six LPs.

Tickets to see The Hip Abduction, Coyote Island, and Sensamotion at The BayCare Sound in Clearwater on Saturday, Oct. 24 are still available and start at $47.
