“T R A P D O O M is a frequency.”
DEA — one half of DEA & Saint, a St. Petersburg duo that defies categorization — is blunt about the album that the band has been working on.
“This sequence of songs is designed to be a full spectrum of the human experience,” she added during an interview for Creative Loafing’s Alternative Podcast, The CLAP. DEA started hopping on buses to check out downtown St. Pete shows when she was just 15 years old. A product of a home that was more or less broken, she found a community in the clubs and venues.
“I would have to run away from home, and my home away from home was the 600 Block,” she said. “When I turned 18 I moved downtown and have been hustling ever since.”
You probably won’t find any bums on the grounds at St. Pete’s Movement Sanctuary either, and that’s where DEA & Saint will stage an ambitious album release party for T R A P D O O M, a new record that’s been two years in the making. The show will feature Jason Feder’s Unicorn Tears soundsystem, plus vibes set into place by Banyans, Wally Clark and emcee Billy Mays III (aka Infinite Third), who will also bring his Mouth Council project to the floor.
