Infinite Third's November 2017 album, Channel(s), celebrates its one-year anniversary this month, and to celebrate, Billy Mays III is putting out a new project, Channel(s): Remixed, which will see release on November 22.
The 2017 album — which raised more than $11,000 on a Kickstarter campaign — was a milestone for the St. Petersburg experimental artist, and it was the first time Mays ever put music out on vinyl. A few months ago, Mays, who is also the maestro of Mouth Council, started reaching out to some of his favorite artists and producers — including Alastair St. Hill, King Complex, Banyans and Fr33dback — who were eventually given the stems to the 20-minute B-side of Channel(s). What Mays got in return was more than 20 diverse remixes, 18 of which will be released on the Remixes album (the others will be released separately via the artists as their own tunes featuring Infinite Third).
Mays got some help from producer and audio engineer Stephen Bowman (AKA Banyans), who mastered the compilation and submitted two remixes to the effort.
"One of my favorite things to do is sequence songs together conceptually for an album, and organizing this collection into a listenable experience was a unique and fun challenge for me," Mays told CL. "I put a lot of time and energy into curating these mixes. I'm really proud of the whole sonic journey."
Every cent of the download and streaming proceeds from the effort will also be donated to CASA, a St. Pete-based nonprofit that protects and advocates for victims of domestic abuse, and the philanthropic angle is good practice for Mays, who will soon launch his own nonprofit to honor the memory of his late father, famed pitchman and St. Petersburg resident Billy Mays.
On November 25, Mays and his collaborators will host a listening party and CASA fundraiser at Grassroots Kava House in Downtown St. Petersburg, but for now he's offered a first listen for a Remixed track from Tampa producer Fr33dback.
