I'm still jamming last week's Tune-Up, but I've got so many new jams to share with you guys, so let's keep this train rolling. Don't forget you can always follow my Tune Up's on Spotify, that way you don't miss a beat. Let's go over a few of my favorite tunes from this week.
New Zealand's LEISURE expertly craft seductive indie-rock tunes, and their new single "Moonbeam" falls right into that realm. Groovy baselines, sparse plucks of guitar, sonic wave blasts, and some sexy synth all come together to spawn one cool ass song. LEISURE have yet to release a full length LP, but have been teasing us with stand alone singles for the last year. Come on fellas, give us an album already.
Swedish singer-songwriter MIYNT just dropped her debut EP justly titled, EP No. 1. "You Were Never Too Much" is her silky new single about breakups and lost love. MIYNT's calming vocals meld tightly over hand claps and glimmering synths. This is synth-pop at it's best.
New York is no stranger to birthing great new music and now you can add Future Generations to that long list. They recently released their satisfying debut self-titled record and "This Place We Go" is an excellent offering. The piano is an immediate standout on this track, and accompanied with earnest lyrics about getting out of a bad relationship; the song is all something we can all relate to."You told me to runaway, but I sit here anyway," is crooned with conviction.
Staying in the same area, Brooklyn's Sunflower Bean have a new EP titled, From the Basement, and it's only of covers. That might turn off some fans, but I'm always ready for a good cover, if it's done right. They decided to give "Shine a Light," originally recorded by Spiritualized a whirl, and I think they nailed it. To be honest, the entire EP is executed well and it's definitely worth your time.
