John Paul Pitts threw it back to the Astro Coast days for Surfer Blood's new album, Snowdonia (due February 3 via Joyful Noise).

The eight track effort — which features previously released singles "Six Flags in F or G" and"Matter of Time" — is the first one since that 2010 debut to be written and mixed by Pitts all by his lonesome.

A press release says it finds the band tackling heavy themes like mortality and aging through longer, more complex songs, while still incorporating plenty of their signature pop hooks.

You can hear an example — complete with contributions from new members guitarist Michael McCleary and bassist Lindsey Mills — and then see a tracklist below. Online pre-orders are happening now, but you should really just call your local record store to see if they'll be carrying the release.
