When Jay Electronica makes his Tampa debut on Thursday, his support bill will also feature someone who’s kind of trying something new out, too.
Tampa artist Fary Charles is best known as Junkyrd and has turned heads for his visual artistry which has been a highlight of many gallery shows (and album art, just look at Pink Siifu’s NEGRO). He’s also deeply influenced by the work of Jay Electronica engineer Mike Chav who worked on the iconic rapper’s 2007 project Act I: Eternal Sunshine.
But for this show, Charles—once homeless and drifting between cities and selling art to get by— trades the paintbrush for a microphone as he opens the show to showcase this new medium of expression.
