Ella Jet: Black Wave Diary It’s hard to find a 2018 Bay area pop release that had more of an arresting, heartbreaking effect on listeners than this five-song release from 21-year-old songwriter Ella Vet Vessenmeyer. CL has wrote, at length, about the pain on “Dreamer,” but the lyrical and melodic approach Vessenmeyer employs during a walk around strings and lonely piano of “Be Someone” (sample lyric: “I’d have cried on my mom if I’d met her”) is usually heard on records composed by songwriters at least twice her age.
