✔️ Lorde w/Run the Jewels/Mitski It was going to be tough to make this stacked show any more interesting, but Killer Mike’s NRA drama did just that two weeks ago when the gun lobby used an interview with the outspoken Atlanta rapper to make it seem like he was against the protesters that have been marching against gun violence lately. Social media roundly criticized him for his opinions, but Mike — one half of raucous hip-hop duo Run the Jewels — eventually shared an apology and clarification of his statements on Twitter. In the message, Mike explains that he supports the noble March for Our Lives protesters as an ally and that the NRA interview was conducted a week before the March, then used by the organization to disparage the student organizers without his knowledge or consent (at his core, Mike is an advocate for African-American gun ownership, and cites history in a way that is far too in-depth for this blurb). That makes Run The Jewels’ appearance on an indie-rock superbill headlined by Lorde (who is supported by D.I.Y.-darling Mitski) one of the most anticipated concerts of the spring. Mix Tapes w/Crate Bros. We write about the Crate Brothers a lot on these pages. The long-running Ybor City club staples have experienced something of a resurgence in the last year or two (thanks, Emo Night), and the Bros.’ influence continues its growth with this Wednesday-night party at Orpheum that pays homage to the idea of the mixtape. We’re not expecting to see a DJ manning the cassette deck, but we will show up for the Crate Bros.’ good taste and to try and get in on the kill the keg action. (Orpheum, Ybor City) INFO
