Woody Pines Those of you not interested in crossing the bridge to see Woody Pines at his Tampa NYE party can get in on this early, intimate and free show at the Ale & the Witch in St. Pete. (The Ale & the Witch, St. Petersburg) INFO
✔️ Cyclic Monotonicity: A Photo Show by Seamus Gallagher w/Crate Bros. Scene champ and all-around amazing human Seamus Gallagher (@gallaguerilla) took his photo-a-day project insanely seriously in 2016, and he'll hang selects on the walls of The Bricks on Saturday as the year comes to a close. Bay area faves the Crate Bros. will select the tunes, and you can check the project out on Instagram before you see it in real life. (The Bricks, Ybor City) INFO
The Spill Canvas acoustic Christmas Christmas is over, kiddos, but if you’re the type to hang on until the tree turns brown (that’s a fire hazard, by the way), then Crowbar might have something you’d be interested in as OG Sioux Falls, South Dakota mall pop-punk band The Spill Canvas brings an acoustic holiday tour to Ybor City in these final days of the year. It’s been five years since the band’s latest album (the Kickstarter-funded Gestalt), and there have been murmurs of a new record being recorded in 2018, so hope for a tease at this show. ✔️ Donna the Buffalo w/Jim Lauderdale At this point, Donna the Buffalo fans should know that there’s no “Donna” to be had (the band was originally supposed to be called “Dawn Of The Buffalo” before a fortunate mispronunciation). What DTB faithful will find at Skipper’s during this two-night run, however, is a collective of the band’s cult followers ready to ring in the New Year with some rootsy-folk music. Expect to also hear a lot from Wait ‘Til Spring — a 2003 collaborative album with country songwriter Jim Lauderdale — since the 60-year-old architect of Americana will be on hand to play solo opening sets and presumably join the band. Lauderdale is touring in support of his 2017 solo album London Southerner, but he’s played with the likes of George Strait, Vince Gill, Dwight Yoakam, Patty Loveless and even sang backup for Lucinda Williams over the years, so he’ll be ready to throw down with the Buffalo at these Saturday and Sunday shows.
