✔️ Adrian Belew King Crimson flipped prog-rock on its head during an impressive run through the ‘70s, and while it was the guitar and mellotron sounds of founder Robert Fripp that propelled the band, KC couldn’t have reigned without Adrian Belew in the lineup for the better part of three decades. The 68-year-old is one of the most overlooked guitarists in history, which is odd considering the fact that he’s managed to make his quirky, often out-of-the-box sound fit the mold when hired by the likes of Zappa, Bowie, and the Talking Heads. The Lone Rhino brings his power trio to downtown Clearwater for a night that guitar nerds will be talking about for the rest of the year. (Capitol Theatre, Clearwater) INFO
Wavy Thursdays w/DJ Ku/DJ Obi/DJ Chase West Next week, The Ritz’s new “Wavy Thursday” party brings old-school hip-hop party-starters the Ying Yang Twins (“Salt Shaker,” “Low” with Usher) to headline, but this Thursday, the Wavy crew is going to crack the lid off the open format party with a crew of selectors led by Tampa’s own DJ Ku. It’s open bar until 11 p.m., and more information is available via theritzybor.com. (The Ritz, Ybor City) INFO
✔️ Spafford w/The Groove Orient We’re not really sure when the Huffington Post became a trusted voice in the jam-band world, but the site has called Spafford’s Abaculus an “industry game changer.” The record — an hour-long fully improvised recording — is grabbing the attention of fans, and the Phoenix quartet does bring the spirit of it to its live show, which is also fully improvised, meaning that all the melodies, lead parts and song changes will be coming off the cuff when you go see the group at this very busy Ybor rock club. Stove. ukes out a pair of neu-folk gems — listen
✔️ Stove. w/Shurwood/Sine Cura/Paperback Sine Cura’s 2017 EP, I Am Growing, Honestly., is the kind of pop-punk debut fans hold on to forever as the band starts to grow, and on Thursday the McAllen, Texas four-piece drops into this St. Pete tattoo shop with Wilkesboro, North Carolina emo band Paperback in tow. Paperback is touring behind its own 2017 album, Guilty Veins, and the travelling bands will be joined by Shurwood and Stove., two local emo and folk-punk outfits CL always seems to be writing about. Black Violin Unattended children usually don’t read this paper, so you’re probably not one of the seventh-through-12th-graders who are catching early morning educational sets from South Florida violinists Wil B. and Kev Marcus, who have turned their classical training into this genre-soup of a performance (think bluegrass and Brahms meeting R&B, hip-hop and pop inside of a Top 40 club) that’s earned them praise at SXSW and spots playing their music for national audiences watching HBO, The Tonight Show and Ellen. A new album is due this year, so expect Wil and Kev to tease fans with that, too. (David A. Straz Center for Performing Arts, Tampa) INFO
✔️ Rock the Park w/The Badda Skat Band/Dean Johanesen/When Particles Collide Bob Marley’s birthday is next Tuesday, so it’s pretty cool of long-running downtown Tampa outdoor concert series Rock the Park to invite Badda Skat — the Bay area’s own ambassador of hyper-posi, very irie vibes — to headline a night that also includes sets by vintage-folk songwriter Dean Johanesen (think Americana inside of a speakeasy) and Boston-based wife-and-husband rock duo When Particles Collide. This is a free and early, good dog-friendly show. (Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, Tampa) INFO
