✔️ Easter Island w/DieAlps!/Kerry Courtney Longtime local scene observers first got acquainted with Easter Island during the band’s 2012 appearance at the eighth edition of Ybor City’s Summer Jam festival. That party has since been laid to rest, but the Athens, Georgia outfit hasn’t stopped visiting our neck of the woods. This early show starts at 5 p.m. and will sound great for fans of Explosions In Sky, My Bloody Valentine, Pedro The Lion, and Sigur Rós. Read our interview with Bay area songwriter (and show opener) Kerry Courtney here. (Microgroove, Tampa) INFO
WIDE AWAKE
Tampa Bay songwriter Kerry Courtney’s new project is more honest that he’s ever been in the past
Luicidal w/Infernal Diatribe/Chris Barrows Band/Dead Cat Lounge Suicidal Tendencies’ melding of punk and metal was novel when the band’s self-titled debut arrived in the early ‘80s, and Luicidal knows that. Featuring former Suicidal Tendencies bassist Louiche Mayorga (who, in 2016, sued Lisa Fancher — founder of Frontier Records — for not regularly paying him his royalties for the band’s debut), Luicidal will play Suicidal Tendencies’ first three albums at this show, where New Hampshire hardcore outfit Infernal Diatribe acts as support alonside local hardcore favorites Chris Barrows Band and Dead Cat Lounge. Ralo You can always count on clubs like Skye to book up-and-coming hip-hop talent right at that make-or-break point, and this one from Future collaborator Terrell Davis is no exception. The 30-year-old Atlanta rapper better known as Ralo is signed to Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records imprint and arrives in Ybor supporting the third installment of his Diary of the Streets mixtape series, which finds Gucci himself, Young Thug, Boosie BadAzz, Hoodrich Pablo Juan, Young Dolph, Trouble and many more helping out. ✔️ Hayley Kiyoko Fans who were bummed about possibly not being able to catch Hayley Kiyoko at the relatively small State Theatre should be happy about seeing this show move down the road to Jannus, and we’re curious to know if the rising 27-year-old pop songwriter has the pull to pack fans into one of the Bay area’s larger mid-sized venues. Kiyojo — who arrives in support of her 2018 album Expectations (released on March 30) — has the klout to do just that (Bleachers’ Jack Antonoff just tapped her to join the lineup on his personal August 25 Asbury Park music festival), and songs like Expectations’ title track and “Feelings” certainly sound great on the radio.
