Flotsam and Jetsam Eric “A.K.” Knutson is the lone original member of Flotsam and Jetsam, but some of us remember the days when the Phoenix, Arizona thrash metal outfit featured Jason Newsted on bass (Newsted famously joined Metallica after Flotsam and Jetsam released its debut album). Knutson has soldiered on and plowed through about a dozen members throughout the band’s 37-year history (even adding past Alice Cooper and Accept drummer Ken Mary to the lineup last month), and he arrives as the band continues to work toward a follow-up to its 2016 self-titled album. “Ken has already tracked all the drums for our upcoming album slated for release later this year, and we’re all looking forward to the fans experiencing a new chapter in the history of Flotsam and Jetsam,” the band said after the announcement.
