✔️ USF Monday Night Jazz: The Ellen Rowe Project Ellen Rowe’s resumé is enviable. The pianist has been a professor at the University of Michigan for more than two decades, and she founded the jazz program at Uconn where she was the world’s first female chair of a major university jazz department. Rowe is releasing a new album (Momentum – Portraits of Women In Motion) on the same day of this show at the University of South Florida where she’ll be backed by an all-woman ensemble playing Rowe’s pieces dedicated to inspirational figures in fields ranging from music to athletics, and social justice to environmental preservation. Windhand w/Genocide Pact A love for grunge is the cornerstone of a new album from Windhand, but the Richmond, Virginia doom-metal band also hangs its hat on the velvety vocals of frontwoman Dorthia Cottrell, whose voice reminded NPR of “a perfectly overdriven amp.” Even the famously finicky Pitchfork — which called Cottrell one of the most persuasive metal singers to emerge this decade — called Eternal Return riveting from “end to end.” (Crowbar, Ybor City) INFO
