✔️ Mary Chapin Carpenter The coffeehouse meets country and folk at the Capitol Theatre when Mary Chapin Carpenter hits Clearwater for a show in support of her new album, Sometimes Just the Sky, on which she reimagines and rearranges one song apiece from each of her 12 studio albums. It’s the second time the 60-year-old has re-visited old material (2014’s Songs from the Movie found Carpenter re-recording ten songs), but nearly every shred of her 31-year-old discography is worth repeated listens anyway. Particle Emerging from a years-long hiatus that saw its frontman Steve Molitz stay busy with stints as keyboardist for Phil Lesh & Friends, Rich Robinson Band and guitarist Robby Krieger, Particle has returned with its first first studio recording in 14 years (Accelerator, released last month). The band was livetronic before “livetronica” was even a buzzword, so expect a healthy crowd at this no-cover small-town show. (Dunedin Brewery, Dunedin) INFO
Stanley Jordan w/Raul Midon Stanley Jordan’s two-hands-on-the-frets approach to jazz guitar was groundbreaking for the scene when he introduced it in the ‘80s, and these days the instrumentalist who has jammed with Dave Matthews Band, Umphrey’s McGee and Phil Lesh is still turning heads by playing the guitar and piano at the same time. Jordan is also making waves by being an advocate for LGBTQ expression. (Central Park Performing Arts Center, Largo) INFO
Ghostflower w/Public Speaking In February, Miami electronic art-rock trio Ghostflower is set to play a big hometown show as part of the III Points lineup, but on Friday it joins New York-based experimental composer and multi-instrumentalist Jason Anthony Harris — who uses voice, found objects, radio, synth, and tape recorder, poring over pedals to loop, warp and augment these sources — for this Tampa house show. Harris plays Ybor two days later for a gig at The Bunker, and remember to park in the yard and bring money for merch and donations should you end up at this on-the-down-low show.
