Beloved and bewitching Tampa emcee Diana Hardy is fresh off of a European tour and already staging a one-woman show at Tampa’s Stageworks Theatre on Saturday, but she is getting a little behind the scenes help from a couple of dudes who consistently make other Bay area artists look good, too.
“Initially, I thought about doing the show with tracks, but nothing beats the element of live music,” Hardy — aka Dynasty — told CL. “[So]I called on my friend Kenosobi, who is an amazing drummer, producer and emcee, to provide the rhythm. Then I called on a young guitarist by the name of Nick McKinnon. [He’s] a beast, an accomplished, award-winning guitarist, but what I love most is that he’s hungry and humble. He actually bought a new guitar just for the show.”

[Editor’s note: The Tampa Bay Times’ Ernest Hooper did a really good job of examining A Star in Life’s Clothing, which Hardy (aka Dynasty) describes as a mix of music and monologues that gives the audience a “glimpse into what it’s like to win, fail, love, lose and ultimately land in your own divine space.”]
All of that talent will shine for one night only on October 28, and it’ll be interesting to see how her fans — especially the young kids she mentors regularly — take to the show.
“I had been rehearsing while on tour, but I had to keep it quiet while in the hotels so I couldn’t get a real feel for how good the show was,” Hardy added.”But it wasn’t until I rehearsed with the guys that I realized that we had something really special here.”
She’s hoping for an audience that draws from all walks of life, which is pretty much the crowd she draws on the aforementioned, sold-out European tour dates.
“There is something in the show for everyone. I’m really excited to see what everyone walks away with.”
