Tampa Jazz Club: James Suggs (George Gershwin tribute) Sunday, Aug. 24. 3 p.m. $10 & up. Mainstage Theatre at Hillsborough College, Ybor City Credit: c/o Palladium Theater
The busiest trumpeter in Tampa Bay switches gears a bit for a Sunday matinee.

The Tampa Jazz Club has tapped James Suggs to pay homage to the music of George Gershwin, the American pianist and composer whose “Swanee” was partly inspired by the official state song of the Sunshine State. “Summertime” and “Embraceable You” are up for re-imagination, too, as James Suggs is joined onstage by bassist Alejandro Arenas, Patrick Bettison on keys, and drummer Jean Bolduc for this kickoff of the Tampa Jazz Club season.

Tickets to Tampa Jazz Club’s James loves Gershwin happening Sunday, Aug. 24 at the Hillsborough Community College Mainstage Theatre in Ybor City are still available and start at $10.
