Mark Pointer, a Tampa rapper who performed as Benzo YB Ferrari, was fatally shot Tuesday night in St. Petersburg. Police are investigating.
St. Petersburg rapper “Fayd the God,” aka Neville Allen Chambers, is charged with murdering Pointer, who was 25 years old.
St. Petersburg police arrived at 3745 Ninth Avenue North after shots were fired late Tuesday near St. Petersburg Public Library. Authorities found Pointer and Julius Buchanan, 28, both of Tampa, with gunshot wounds. Both were transported to Bayfront Hospital.
Buchanan is recovering. Pointer died Wednesday morning. CL has a call into the police and is waiting on an additional statement.
A frequent collaborator with the man he’s now accused of killing, Chambers is charged with first degree murder and awaits trial. Chambers was charged twice in 2015 and once in 2014 with resisting an officer without violence and trespassing.
Detectives are trying to locate a second suspect in the shooting. Another gunshot victim, now identified as St. Petersburg’s Lerry Danny Marius, 25, died Tuesday night at Bayfront in a separate shooting, which police have said is not connected to the Pointer incident.
On August 16, Pointer promoted Fayd’s I'm Still Plugged mixtape on Facebook. Pointer's own mixtape, WITH OR WITHOUT THEM, had appeared on datpiff.com three days earlier. The two performed together regularly at local shows.
Just shy of 22 years old, Chambers could face the death penalty if found guilty. Investigation is ongoing. Check back for further updates as the story develops.
